Robbie Bryson joined the wrinkled ranks of John Lenihan and Gerry Brady from 2004 and Mr Lenihan again last year in showing the new boys of Irish Mountain Racing what it’s all about. At 44 years young, Robbie was first Irish man home, but he had the baby of the team, Bryan Keane breathing down his neck. In the end Robbie held out by 1 second finishing in a superb 68th position in a time of 1:05:19. Bryan was 69th in 1:05:20, a great prospect for the future when you consider it was only his third or fourth hill race ever. When his brother Kevin returns from injury next year, as we all expect him to, the chants of Keano!, will reverberate on the mountains of Europe and no doubt! Mick Kelly also had a fine run coming in 73rd .The team score and a fine 15th placing was achieved by Gary Crossan’s 89th placing. Aidan Woods was 112th and Eoin Gahan 117th and both ran very well also. This was our best Senior Mens team spot for several years and very well done to all the team. In the Senior Womens race Caroline Harney had a fine run coming 63rd in 59:02. She was followed home by Olympic mountain biker Jenny McCauley in 71st and the very popular Orla McEvoy in 79th. The team finished 17th and we can build on this result next year. In the Junior men Eoin Rowen, led the team home . He finished in 55th place followed closely by Eoin Pierce in 59th. John O’Sullivan in 72nd and Sam Hand in 73rd were a little disappointed with their races but the team finished 15th overall. Michelle Finn had a fine run to finish 32nd in the Junior Womens race. Well done and congratulations to all involved.
