Athletics Ireland is pleased to outline the selection process for the national team that will compete at the 2026 IAU 100K World Championships in Ames, A Coruña, in northwest Spain. Our aim is to select a highly competitive team of male and female athletes to represent Ireland at on the world stage. The final team size will be confirmed at the concluding selection meeting.
Selected athletes will be required to contribute towards the cost of attending the championships. The final contribution amount will depend on the confirmed team size.
To be considered for selection, athletes must meet the following criteria:
- Achieve the qualifying standards:
- Men: Sub 7:21:00
- Women: Sub 8:06:00
- Demonstrate consistent performance in races of similar distances.
- Provide evidence of current form through results from races of marathon distance or longer.
- Ensure all ultra-distance results are achieved in an IAU‑labelled race.
- Be eligible to compete for Ireland (must hold an Irish passport).
- Be a registered member of an Athletics Ireland–affiliated club.
- Be injury‑free at the time of selection.
Athletes wishing to be considered must submit an expression of interest by Friday, April 10th. The final team will be announced during the first week of May. Please note that submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee selection.
