The GloHealth Master Track and Field Championships take place this Sunday, 10th of August in Tullamore Harriers Stadium. The athletes competing will contest a full programme of Track and Field events ranging from the 35+ age category to the 90+ age group.
This year’s national master championships will act as the perfect preparation for those going on to represent Ireland at the European Master Track and Field Championships in Izmir, Turkey taking place from the 22-31st of August.
Reigning national senior Shot Putt champion Sean Breathnach (Galway City Harriers AC) makes his first appearance in the master category. Breathnach has a season’s best of 16.30m a mark he will aim to improve on in Tullamore on Sunday. World Master 800m indoor champion Joe Gough (West Waterford AC) targets a double over 400m and 800m in the M60 age category.
Other Irish athletes that medalled at the 2014 World Master Indoor Championships included Brian Lynch, Ann Woodlock, Cathal McLaughlin and Mary Barrett. Paul Fleming (Rathfarnham WSAF) and Annette Kealy (Raheny Shamrock AC) are two athletes to watch out for in the middle distance events.
Tullamore Show
The Tullamore Show is taking place on Sunday with heavy traffic expected around the area. All athletes and officials travelling to Tullamore for the championships should take this into consideration when travelling to the event.
