The 123.ie National Masters Track and Field Championships delivered another action packed scheduled in Tullamore today (July 26th), with over 500 athlete battling it out for championships honours across the eight-hour schedule.
Track Action
The track athletes delivered exceptional performances across the day:
- Jer O’Donoghue (M40, Killarney Valley A.C.) clocked the fastest 100m of the day in 11.41 seconds, while Ray Lee of Monaghan Phoenix doubled up in the M35 category across 100m and 200m.
- David Miller (M40, Strabane A.C.) led the 200m sprints with a swift 23.98 seconds.
- Sinead O’Connor (W40, Metro/St. Brigids A.C.) was the standout among women, winning both the 100m (13.12s) and 200m (26.77s) in her category.
- In the hurdles, Niamh McGuire (W50, Rathkenny A.C.) impressed with a 14.61s finish in the 80m hurdles.
- Kevin Minnock (M35, Tullamore Harriers A.C.) led the charge with a commanding 800m in 2:00.60, cheered on by the home crowd. David Carroll (M35, Liffey Valley A.C.) followed closely in 2:01.29, with a strong final 200m. Carroll returned to the track to take the 1500m title in 4:14.96.
Field Event Standouts
- Rachel Akers (W40, Ennis Track A.C.) threw a massive 50.14m in the Hammer Throw, one of the top field marks of the day.
- Alan O’Connor (M35, Tralee Harriers A.C.) dominated the Discus Throw with a best of 40.66m and also led the Shot Put with 12.28m.
- Tom O’Brien (M55, Waterford A.C.) soared to 1.50m in the High Jump, a standout vertical leap in the Masters field.
