The hugely successful Women in Leadership Programme is being run for the second time. The aim of the course is to provide training, guidance and expertise to support women to thrive in leadership positions in athletics. The course is delivered online via zoom over five evenings weekly and a final session in person.
Previous participants of the programme have been appointed onto Athletics Ireland Committee roles, taken up leadership roles in their clubs, become race walking judges and taken up a mentoring programme with European Athletics.
Who is the programme for?
This is aimed at women who are currently in leadership roles within their clubs and who want to get more skills and support. It is particularly useful for anyone in the Women’s Officer role. It is also applicable for women who are aspiring to be strong leaders in their clubs in any area of leadership.
Programme leads: Lisa Clancy & Sarah O’Shea
Lisa Clancy and Sarah O’Shea have been rolling out a Women in Sport Leadership programme in Ireland since 2020. The course has proved to be hugely successful with over 1000 participants completing the course across over 50 different sporting organisations in Ireland and in Europe. Participants have included club members, athletes, coaches, volunteers, board members and support personnel from a variety of backgrounds within Clubs, National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships.
About the Programme
This course has been specifically designed for women in sport to step up at their specific level and break down any barriers that may be holding them back. This course is for women currently in leadership roles or who have the aspiration and drive to be in one.
The course is designed to be an enjoyable experience for participants to learn in a relaxed supportive environment from two internationally experienced sporting leaders and to build a network into the future. It is a practical interactive course delivered over zoom with participants expected to fully engage during the sessions and in various breakout groups as part of their learning experience. There are some group and individual exercises during the programme and the size of the class is limited to ensure everyone can fully engage and reach their full potential.
