A highly successful Woodie’s DIY juvenile indoor season concluded in Nenagh on Sunday. The last batch of track and field events were staged on Saturday, while the relays had the stage to themselves on Sunday. Indeed, the noise levels on Sunday were intense as all the athletes and supporters really got behind their teams. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Once again the level of competition was very high and resulted in some excellent competition throughout the weekend, with several CPB’s recorded. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Niall Counihan from Dooneen wasn’t too far off the 14m mark when winning the under 19 triple jump with a best of 13.94m. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Paul Smith from Shercock jumped 6.70m to win the under 17 long jump. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Ian Ward from Finn Valley overcame a very strong challenge from Keith Meagher of Thurles Crokes to win the under 18 800m in 1:59.18, just ahead of Meagher’s 1:59.97. Andrew Brennan from Metro St. Brigid’s won the under 17 800m in 2:01.87, and Anthony Lieghio from Tallaght was the under 19 winner in 1:56.38. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Other 800m performances of note saw Jessica Neville from Blarney Inniscarra just get the better of her twin sister Christine to win the under 15 800m in 2:25.92; Torlach Grant from Navan won the boys under 16 in 2:02.47; Rachel Shaw from Galway City Harriers won the under 16 800m in 2:19.67; Ailis Brennan from St. Abban’s won the under 17 800m in 2:16.62; and Ciara Everard from Kilkenny City Harriers won the under 18 800m in 2:16.91 as her brother was winning the Inter Varsities 800m in Santry. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Niamh Whelan from Ferrybank won another national title with victory in the under 18 200m in 25.38, while clubmate Nicola Power won the under 17 long jump with 5.19m. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Joan Healy from Bandon was another to cap a successful season with victory in the under 16 200m in 26.07; Steffi Creaner from Celtic DCH won the under 17 200m in 25.76, just edging out Katelyn Duane from Athenry who clocked 25.79; Craig Lynch from Shercock won the under 18 200m in a blanket finish in 22.94, with Christopher Russell from Ferrybank second and Cathal Owens from Leevale third; and Ciaran Kenny from Blarneys Inniscarra won the under 19 200m in 23.36. Woodie's DIY Indoor Juvenile Championships Leevale boys under 18 set a new CBP in winning the under 18 4 x 200m relay in impressive style.
