Brian Farrell wins on his return from US The easterly wind at the Woodie’s DIY novice and juvenile cross country championships was biting, but, apart from that, everything was perfect, as usual, at St. Augustine’s College Dungarvan. Brian Farrell from Sli Chualainn, back in Ireland after a four year scholarship at Stony Brook, and now studying at DCU, made his intentions very clear from the start of the men’s novice race, and was never far from the lead. Woodie's DIY Novice and Juvenile Going out the last of three laps he was clear of Rory Chesser from Ennis, with Corkman Cillian O’Leary from Raheny Shamrocks in close attention. Farrell ran strongly and maintained his lead to win well, with O’Leary putting in a strong finish for second, while Patrick Brennan from North Sligo came through for third. Maria Halley made a strong bid to win the novice women’s race, going into the lead from the start. However, she faded in the closing stages as the chasing group closed on her, with Rebecca Woods from Clonliffe Harriers showing good strength over the last lap to take the lead and then race on to a good win from Orla Ni Mhuircheartaigh from Galway. Woodie's DIY Novice and Juvenile Michael Mulhare from North Laois, second in the junior inter counties, went one better in the under 19 age group. He bided his time in the lead group before taking over the lead at halfway and then went on to record a decisive victory. Niall Tuohy, who was a member of the Irish junior team along with Mulhare at the European’s, ran a strong race to finish second after a good battle with David Flynn from Clonliffe Harriers. He did everything right but had no answer to the storming finishing speed of Liam Tremble from Dublin who had remained in close attention for the whole race and then kicked past Quinn in the last quarter mile. Woodie's DIY Novice and Juvenile When Eimear Black from Ballymena and Antrim went clear of the under 17 field there was never any danger of her being caught and she went on to win impressively from Tara Jameson of Inbhear Dee.. Adam Ingram from Lagan Valley took the lead from the gun in the under 15 race and was never threatened as he won comfortably from clubmate Andrew Monaghan. Woodie's DIY Novice and Juvenile Maryann O’Sullivan from Tinryland was an impressive winner in the under 15 race, taking the lead from the start and going on to win by a big margin.
