Eoin Keith 2nd in 6 Day World Trophy Race in Hungary

Eoin Keith added to his reputation as a top class ultra-runner with a very strong performance in the recent 6 day World Trophy race in Hungary.  This race is generally considered the most prestigious of the 6 day races held internationally. The course is regarded as being fast and with a history of high standards, it routinely attracts the strongest athletes in this discipline.  Multiple national and age group records are usually set at each running of the race and it could be considered the de-facto world championships of 6 day running.

The 2015 renewal had possibly the most competitive international field ever assembled for a 6-day race with more than 17 entrants having an existing 6 day PB of greater than 700km.

Eoin endured a difficult start but managed to work his way through the field to get into 2nd place by the end of the first day. Many days of tight tactical racing followed, until he eventually pulled away from the chasing pack to definitively take 2nd place, and in the process set a new Irish record distance of 816.345 km.

The race winner, Joe Fejes of the USA, was the first person in over 10 years to run in excess of 600 miles in a 6 day race.  He covered 975km which was a course record and an American national record.

Eoin is now recovering and looking forward to the National 24 hour championships at the Energia 24H in Belfast on July 17th / 18th.
