Fit4Class Primary Schools Pilot Scheme Off To A Great Start

POSTED:

Fit4Class

Primary School Athletics Programme

Fit4Class is Athletics Ireland’s new 10 week programme that introduces primary school children from junior infants to fourth class to athletics in a fun, engaging and non-competitive environment. It focuses on the use of games to develop fitness whilst enhancing agility, balance and co-ordination, all fundamental to longer term physical athletic development. Fit4Class rewards students for participating and having fun.

We at Athletics Ireland anticipate Fit4Class will encourage primary schools to incorporate athletics into their PE classes, while also encouraging students to try athletics outside school with their local athletic club. It is hoped that Fit4Class will also help promote the benefits of regular physical activity to the wider school community.

Completing Fit4Class is straightforward. From week 1 to week 10 the class teacher simply follows the Fit4Class recommended games provided in the Fit4Class programme booklet, while the supplied class tracker helps to motivate and monitor progress. Equipment needed for Fit4Class is minimal and found in all PE departments. On completing the programme students will be presented with a Fit4Class wristband. The colour of wristband is determined by the class they’re in.

The current pilot programme see’s 6 primary schools introduce Fit4Class into their PE timetable.
