AAI held its 3rd Congress on 29 and 30 April in the Ramada Hotel, Limerick Junction. There was a packed programme and there was an attendance of 220. The main business of the Congress was the reports of the Officers, election of Board members and Committee members and motions. Since the last Congress, held two years ago in Donegal the Association has undergone considerable changes in its governance structure. The reports presented reflected the old governance with presentations from the Honorary General Secretary, Honorary International Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Competition Secretray. Following the President's address by Michael Heery the elections were held. These were the first elections to the positions created in the new governance structure. There were a number of elections for positions on the Board. The principal results were: President: Michael Heery 151, Georgina Drumm 62. Chair of Coaching: Patsy Mc Gonagle 168, Nick Davis 48. Chair of Competition: Paddy Marley unopposed. Chair of Finance: Mary Coghlan 130, Michael Quinlan 86. Chair of High Performance: Liam Hennessy unopposed. Chair of Juvenile: Breda Synnott, unopposed. Strategic Update The new CEO, Brendan Hackett made his first presentation at Congress on Sunday morning. The presentation outlined the vision of AAI, the strategy to achieve it and the staffing and governance structures to support and deliver the necessary programmes. A copy of Brendan Hackett's presentation can be viewed Following this presentation, the Chairman of the Irish Sports Council, Ossie Kilkenny addressed the delegates. He emphasised the importance of the Athletics to Irish Sport and the need to celebrate our successes. He outlined the willingness of the Irish Sports Council to support AAI but emphasised the importance of presenting strong plans and running the Association in a business like manner.After his address, Brendan Hackett presented Ossie with a unique drawing featuring all the world record holders for the mile since Roger Bannister ran the first sub four minute over 50 years ago Strategic Update Presentation
