Day 1 Preview (July 7th)

The hurdles, 600/800m, steeplechase, and field events dominate day 1 of this year’s championships with a host of exciting athletes set to battle it out for national honours.

Caolan McFadden (Cranford AC) should go well in the U18 Boys 800m, while Shea O’Donnell (ACE AC) is sure to also put in a brae showing.

Maebh Caffrey (St Cocas AC) and Nicole Dinan (Leevale AC) will be to the fore in the U19 800m, while Pia Langton (Kilkenny City Harriers) should go well in the U18 Girls race, with Jodie Foster (Willowfield Harriers) sure to be still in contention come the bell.

The hurdles are sure to provide much excitement across Saturday’s schedule, with Ethan Dewhirst among the110mH entries (U18) following his recent European U18 selection in the 400m hurdles.

Orlaith Mannion (South Galway) looks a contender for the U18 Girls 100mH, while Okwu Backari (Leevale AC) will look to add to her growing medal collection in the U19 Girls 100mH and long jump competitions.

Recent school’s champion Michael Kent (DMP AC) will be tough to beat in the U18 long jump competition, while attention in the throws will likely hone in on Caoimhe Gallen (Lifford Strabane) in the U18 hammer and multi-event star Enya Silkena (Ratoath AC) in the U18 javelin.
