Tony Mangan finished 9th in the European 24 Hour Championships, setting a new Irish track record of 223km (138.6 miles) in the process. Mangan addtionally holds the Irish road record of 228km, which he set in Taiwan earlier this year when finishing 16th in the World Championships. Vladimir Bychkov (Russia) took the title ahead of Geert Stynen (Belgium) and Antonio Mammoli (Italy), with only yards spearating the latter two. The championships took place in warm conditions in Verona, Italy over the weekend (23-24 September).
