Athletics Leader
The Athletics Leader Qualification is designed for people who want to work with children in our Little Athletics Programme.
No previous athletic or coaching experience is required and this qualification is an ideal opportunity for parents and young adults to become more actively involved in their club.
The Athletics Leader coaching course focuses on introducing the fundamentals of athletic movement to children, and gives teachers, parents and club members the skills needed to lead an Athletics Program in their club or school.
Course Content
The Athletics Leader course content includes:
- Group coaching skills/making the coaching sessions fun
- The basics of tumbling, running, jumping and throwing
- Fitness games
- Games to develop speed and reaction, using acceleration and change of direction
- Coaching ethics
- Practical sessions on running and agility, jumping and throwing.
Duration: One day (8 hours)
Entry Requirements: Open to all aged 16 or over.
Assessment/ Qualification: There is no exam. The candidate must complete 50 contact hours of coaching
Cost: €60 (including a copy of Athletics Ireland colourful new Little Athletics manual).
