Sports Capital Programme

POSTED:

Shane Ross TD, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, and Brendan Griffin TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, announced last Friday ((15 November) the final set of allocations for local capital projects under the 2018 round of the Sports Capital Programme (SCP). A total of €37 million has been allocated to 994 different projects with 37 different sports benefitting.

The SCP is the primary means of providing government funding for capital projects to sport and community organisations at local, regional and national level. The 2018 round of the Programme saw the highest level of interest ever with 2,337 individual applications received.

Athletics Ireland would like to congratulate all of the successful club applicants across the country receiving grants from the Sports Capital Grant scheme. But we would also like to strongly encourage more clubs to apply for the grant.

Pat Ryan, Director of Development and Coaching, commented “The Sports Capital Grant scheme affords sports clubs the opportunity to access significant sums of money. In recent years the majority of valid applications to the scheme have been successful. Athletics clubs have been slow to avail of this opportunity and are missing out. In order to remedy the situation, we are holding educational workshops about the application process for the grant.”

Athletics Ireland will be holding a series of workshops nationwide to inform and assist clubs in the application process.  The first in the series is Wednesday 20th November from 7pm-9pm in the Hoban Hotel, Kilkenny (Cabinet Room).  We hope to encourage clubs to explore possibilities and consider options. More dates to be announced shortly.
