There was impressive sprinting at the Northern Ireland/ Ulster championships at the Mary Peters track in Belfast on Saturday. Even allowing for the strong tailwind Anna Boyle's 100 metres in 11.30 ( +4.2 ) was a fine performance. Similarly with Paul Brizzel over the same distance in 10.30 ( + 5.5 ). Over 200 metres Paul McKee looked very smooth with a 21.06 ( +2.8 ) and a good 400 metres is anticipated soon. Juniors Amy Foster and Jason Smyth also looked great in their respective 100 metres. Amy ( 2nd ) edged out Ailis McSweeney in the 100 final with 11.69 to Ailis 11.70 while Jason ran 10.56 for 3rd place behind Paul Brizzel. Other quality performances were produced by Mary McLoone with a double in the long jump 6.22 and triple jump 12.41 ( no wind readings available ); 52.82 for Antoine Burke in the 400 metres hurdles; 48.11 metres Laura Kerr in the javelin; Darragh O'Farrell 7.30 metres in the long jump ( no wind reading ); David Mccarthy 21.80 ( +2.8 )in the 200 metres ; Gareth Turnbull 3.49.54 in the 1500 metres. The day's top performance though came from Michael Allen with a stunning new best of 79.55 metres in the javelin.
