World Athletics periodically issues updates to the Book of Competition and Technical Rules. On 1st November 2023, a new series of updates will come into effect. Among the updates is the inclusion of a new abbreviation which will start to appear in official competition results:
qD – Advanced to the next round by draw.
This abbreviation will appear in the results when an athlete is qualified to the next round following the drawing of lots where a tie between two or more athletes for the last qualifying place cannot be resolved by time or by advancing both athletes to the next round. competition rule CR 21.
