LATEST NEWSLETTER

September 2026 Newsletter

To The Athletics Community,

Athletics never stops and we send our congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and administrators who have been so busy this month. This includes the Masters athletes who competed at the World Championships in Korea, our three athletes who qualified for the first World Ultimate Championships in Budapest, the World Road Racing Championship team who raced in Denmark, the Para athletes in England, the Irish Mountain Running team in Italy and the U18 Development Team for all their success in Scotland. On the domestic scene, history was made last weekend when Marino AC hosted the first ever National Road Mile Championships on Griffith Avenue in Dublin. It was wonderful to see this new championship in an event where we have such a tradition of excellence.

The depth, breadth, and diversity of our sport is unique and highlights that there is a place for everyone in athletics. We encourage you all to invite a friend along to your club to keep our sport growing and prospering, remember any new athletes registering for the first time from the 1st of October 2026 are members through to the end of 2027.

As Schools & Third levels return to start the academic year we wish all our Clubs success in retention and recruitment of members for the season ahead. We believe that athletics has so much to offer us all from the physical and mental health benefits on offer to the comradery and challenge at all levels.

Our Autumn coaching season is up and running and it is wonderful to see so many coaches upskilling through all the various coaching courses at all levels on offer nationwide. Performance squads are also underway for juveniles in each region.

Congratulations and thank you to all our officials who completed the recent NTO course over two weekends in Athlone. It is fantastic that we have so many qualified officials leading our competitions. We are always looking to recruit new officials so please let us know if this is an area you would like to get involved in.

We have recently secured approval from Revenue to receive tax relief on all donations made to support our high performance programme. Please reach out to hamishadams@athleticsireland.ie regarding queries related to this project.

A warm welcome to our new hydration partners; Hygo Spring Water produced by Borrisoleigh Bottling Ltd in Tipperary. Together with Clonmel Healthcare who have been named the Official Healthcare partner of Athletics Ireland. The launch of these new partnerships will support health and wellbeing across our sport.

Our clubs and volunteers continue to be the driving force behind athletics in Ireland and we thank every single person who has done their part in helping to promote our sport. 2026 registrations continue to grow strongly and we have already made the 73,000 members target.

We thank all our athletes, officials, coaches and volunteers for their continued commitment and please don’t hesitate to contact us if we can assist you. The spirit and comradery throughout Athletics in Ireland is underpinned by our values of respect, integrity, inclusion and excellence and these values will be key to growing our great sport further.

We feel very proud and privileged to lead such a fantastic organisation and look forward to sharing further success with you all this year.

Yours in Athletics
