Coaching
Athletics Ireland has developed a Coach Education Programme that reflects the stages of coaching development and offers a pathway for those who wish to become involved in coaching.
The coaching pathway is primarily linked to the athlete's pathway. It offers appropriate training and courses to coaches who wish to work with athletes in the different stages of development.
Workshops provide 'stepping stones' between these courses and are joint initiatives between Coaching and Development and the National Event Co-ordinators.
Coaching is an essential support for athletes who wish to maximise their athletic endeavour and Athletics Ireland is fully committed to the education and development of coaches.
Coaching Main Areas of Focus in 2012 include:
- Coach Education: Focus on upgrading Level 2 and new Level 3 (IAAF level IV) course
- Coach License pilot project: This will start with Level 3 coaches
- Coaching conference Series: These will be held in Spring and Autumn and will be event specific areas led by an international coach
- National Squads: building on work done in 2011
