National Event Squads
Athletics Ireland currently has six National Event Co-ordinators in six Event Areas.
Athletics Ireland Event Coordinators are responsible for the development of their specific event in Ireland. This involves coordinating and managing the development of coaches in their event group, and helping emerging talent to progress in their specific event.
They each work with a panel of National Coaches with specific personal coaching expertise in the events within their group to organise and hold National Squad Days.
Working with Regional Development Officers the National Event Coaches also help with the organisation of event specific workshops and in the development of the Regional Squads.

Sprints & Hurdles

Sprints, Hurdles and Relays
Hayley as a hurdles coach for the past 25 years brings great experience to this role. Since arriving in Ireland in 1995 along with her husband (Drew), Hayley has coached athletes to Olympic Games, World & European Championships and at the last count, there were 92 national senior titles amongst athletes past and present & 22 national records (including relays) amongst them. Also as part of her team, former international athlete, Paul McKee will take charge of the Sprints and Shane McCormack will assist with the Sprint Hurdles.
Endurance

Track and Cross-Country
Teresa is a middle distance coach of note and working with some of our most promising young middle distance prospects in Donegal. Using her many contacts in the endurance world Teresa is working to build up the Endurance Squads and offer workshops and squads for the national level endurance athletes involved in the various disciplines.
Throws

Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Hammer
Former thrower and National Javelin coach David has taken over the reins of a very vibrant national Throws Squad. It is an exciting time for throws in Ireland with many young throws prospects following in the path of the great tradition of throws we had in Ireland. David has a good team of coaches working with him in the various different throws areas and is also using some ‘international expertise’ to help develop the events.
Jumps

High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault
Former Triple Jumper Michael has been a Jumps coach for a number of years and has been working to develop the National Squad Jumps area since mid-2010. He has built a strong team of coaches working with him in a very diverse area. A major aim of the Jumps squads is to encourage personal coaches as well as the athletes to attend Squad Days to help them upskill.
Walks

Walks
Michael an international Walks Judge and coach with vast experience has been developing the Walks area in Ireland for a number of years. He has both National Coaches and more experienced senior athletes working with him to develop the Walks and a great sense of ‘team’ has developed among the ‘walking community’.
Combined Events

Kieron a coach with great experience especially working with developing athletes, and a thrower himself, took over the Combined Events area at the beginning of 2011. Kieron has employed a very experienced team of coaches to help him to develop the Combined Events area and he has been very successful getting athletes of all eligible ages to attend.
