Aston looks to continue streak at Combined Events

Shane Aston (Trim) will look to continue his successful streak at the Irish Life Health National Indoor Combine Events championships in Athlone IT on Saturday (January 18).

This will be the first national championships of the new year, and new decade, and should see some exciting competition right through the age groups.

Shane Aston is undoubtedly the favourite, once in form, having won this title the last number of years. Rolus Olusa (Clonliffe Harriers) showed good form in the first round of the league though and is sure to put up a good challenge.

It will be good to see Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown) back in action in the senior women’s pentathlon and see the progress of her winter work. Laura Frey (Lagan Valley) had an excellent summer setting multiple personal bests and will be looking to continue that good form. Karen Dunne (Bohermeen) is a regular at these championships and will be hoping to get on the podium.

Adeyemi Talabi (Longford) U20, Laura Frawley (St Mary’s Limerick) Youth and Ava Rochford (Ennis Track) U16 will be amongst the athletes to watch in some good entries in the underage categories.

There is a good U20 men’s category including Nelvin Appiah (Longford), Brian Lynch (Old Abbey) and Joseph McEvoy (Nenagh) U20. Finn O’Neill (Lifford Strabane) U16 and Jack Forde (St Killian’s) Youth are amongst others to cast an eye on.

There will be good competition in the masters also with Peadar McGing (DSD) M50 and Trevor McGlynn (Lifford Straban) M40 along with Ani Rebegea (MSB) W40.
