CLONLIFFE AND LEEEVALE CLAIM PREMIER TITLES

The AAI National Outdoor League Final took place today (July 28th) with Clonliffe Harriers (Men) and Leevale (Women) claiming the premier titles, while Kilkenny City Harriers (Men) and Tir Chonaill (Women) finished in top spot in the division 1 finals.

League Final Men

Leevale managed to stop Clonliffe’s drive for 8-in-a-row in the premier competition last year, but the Dubliners bounced back in style to claim top spot in a competitive league final.

Clonliffe amassed five wins across the day’s proceedings, including a sprint double for Marcus Lawler who was in sparking form in the 100m (10.28) and 200m (20.71).

Clonliffe also had a strong representation in the field events with Simon Galligan leading the charge for maximum points in the hammer (54.01m). Niall Allen was top of the standings in the shot put with a best of 10.78m, while David Donegan produced the best vault of the day with 4.10m.

DSD pushed Clonliffe all the way, picking up five wins on the track across the day. Impressing for DSD were Jerome Caprice in the1500m W (6:27.75), Joe Hastings 1500m (4:02.58), David Bosch 400m (47.55), Emmet Jennings 5000m (14:51.10), and the 4x400m relay team who finished first in a winning time of 3:21.08

Leevale put in a brace showing in defence of their title with Sean Carmody 100mh (15.05), Michael Heal discus (50.96) / WFD (9.02), Andrew Scanlon javelin (48.95), and the 4x100m relay leading the charge.

KCH dominated the division one competition, picking up seven wins on their way to the 2024 title. Winning on the delay for KCH were Nicholas Dunphy 1500m W (7:51.05), Alex Cullen 400mH (55.74) / HJ (1.83m), Cathal O`Reilly 1500m (3:55.01), Dean Brennan shot (10.15)/WFD (6.10) and the relays.

League Final Women

Leevale enjoyed a superb outing in the premier winning competition, calling upon the class of Tokyo Olympians Louise Shanahan and Michelle Finn to see them home.

Finn picked up wins in the 3000m (9:32.32) and 2000m SC (6:36.64), while Shanahan was first home in the 800m (2:22.69) and played a leading role in the winning 4x400m relay team.

They were ably supported by wins from Sula Burger WFD (6.88) and Rebecca Walsh discus (34.87).

DSD ran Leevale closest with Mollie O`Reilly winning the 100m in 11.65, while Amy O’Donoghue was first home in the 1500m in 4:26.93.  Ciara Wilson Bowen secured another win on the track for DSD, crossing first in the 1500m W in 7:15.84.

Finn Valley were third with Arlene Crossan 400m (55.44) and Janine Boyle 200m (24.85) both taking wins.

Tir Chonaill dominated division 1, taking seven impressive wins on the day including two over hurdles by Ashleigh MacArdle 100mH (14.98) and Emily Kelly 400mh (1:06.19). MacArdle would play a leading role on the day, also picking up wins in the high jump (1.60) and javelin 34.75.

Siobhan Doherty was first in the 1500m W, while Ava Anderson shot (10.22) /WFD (6.05), Adrienne Gallen hammer (50.08), and the 4x100m relay rounded out a superb competition for Tir Chonaill.
