Dundrum South Dublin AC women’s team and Leevale AC men’s team were the victors at the GloHealth National League Final in Tullamore Harriers Stadium on Sunday, 3rd of August.  The top eight clubs from both the premier and division one categories battled it out in Tullamore to be named Ireland’s best outdoor track and field club in 2014.

DSD women’s team were buoyed by strong performances by Sinead Denny, Maria McCambridge, Kate Doherty and Anita Fitzgibbon to record a total score of 107 points. Clonliffe Harriers produced a consistent set of results to finish in second place with a score of 95 points. Kildare women’s team were boosted by the presence of Irish middle distance athlete Roseanne Galligan as they finished third on 89 points. 

The Leevale men’s team were brilliant in securing victory in the premier men’s contest. There were fine performances produced by Luke Hickey, Mark Hanrahan, Sam Healy, David Quilligan and David Tierney to secure victory with a score of 116 points. The score placed them seven points ahead of St. Abbans AC who were second on 109 points with Clonliffe Harriers in third on 105 points.

St Abbans AC women’s team won the division one women’s title with a score of 116.5 while Donore Harriers AC men’s team did likewise with a score of 112 points.

GloHealth Combined Events Championships

Kourosh Foroughi (Star of the Sea AC) and Shane Aston (Trim AC) went head to head over two days of competition in the senior men’s Decathlon event. Foroughi and Aston were evenly matched across four of the events on day one with Foroughi’s superior High Jump clearance of 1.92m the difference between the two athletes.

On day two of the competition the Javelin event proved crucial with Foroughi throwing 53.49m and Aston throwing 47.31m. Foroughi won the title with a score of 6,303 points with Aston second on 6,063 points. Junior athlete Mark Rogers (St Peter’s AC) placed third with a score of 4,967 points.

Karen Dunne (Bohermeen AC) dominated the senior women’s Heptathlon event recording a score of 4,058 points. Dunne secured impressive points in both the 200m (750) and 800m (736) to secure victory. Laura Frey (Lagan Valley AC) finished second with a score of 3,112 points.

Amy McTeggart (Boyne AC) was the winner of the junior women’s Heptathlon event with a score of 3,773 points. McTeggart produced a consistent set of performances across all seven events to claim the title with Catriona Twomey (KCH AC) second and Alix Hughes (Crusaders AC) third.

Youth Events

In the Youth Boys Octathlon there was a great battle between Keith Marks (Cushinstown AC) and Tim Bowler (Enniscorthy AC). It all came to the final event (1,000m) with Bowler coming out on top with a score of 4,802 points. Marks finished second with a score of 4,792 and Ethan Bannon (Raheny Shamrock AC) third on 4,662 points.

Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown AC) was a class a part in the Youth Girl’s Heptathlon competition as she won the title with a score of 4,669 points. Laura Quigley (Celbridge AC) finished second with a score of 3,277 and Maeve Farrell (Loughrea AC) was third on 3,126 points.
