Three national senior indoor records tumbled on a magical night for Irish athletics at the Millrose Games in New York.
Andrew Coscoran, Sarah Healy and Mark English all produced stunning performances at iconic meeting held annually at The Armory.
Coscoran (Star of the Sea AC) broke Ray Flynn’s record for the Mile that had stood since July 1982, the Balbriggan man running 3:49.26 to finish seventh in the historic Wanamaker Mile race.
Yared Nugese (USA) took victory in a world record time of 3:46.63.
Coscoran’s latest record-breaking feat comes less than a week after he set an Irish indoor 3000m record of 7:30.75 in Boston.
Healy (UCD AC) was also in top form tonight as she lowered her own Irish indoor 3000m record for the second time this season.
The Dubliner, who turns 24 next week, clocked a time of 8:30.79 to finish third in her race behind American duo Whittni Morgan (8:28.03) and Josette Andrews (8:29.77).
Healy showed fantastic strength in the last lap, moving past Olympic 1500m silver medallist Jessica Hull (Australia) in the closing metres.
Just seven days ago, also in Boston, the two-time Olympian had ran 8:35.19 to break the Irish record she had set in France last year.
Less than half an hour after Healy’s race, Mark English (Finn Valley AC) had one of the performances of his career to take a chunk off his own Irish senior indoor 800m record.
The Donegal athlete crossed the line in fourth in a time of 1:45.15, nearly one second faster than his previous indoor best set in 2021.
The race was won by American Josh Hoey in a world-leading time of 1:43.90.
Earlier today three other Irish athletes were in action at the Meeting Metz Moselle Athlelor in France.
Jodie McCann (Dublin City Harriers) ran a massive personal best to finish sixth in the Women’s 1500m. McCann clocked a time of 4:09.18 which moves her up to third on the Irish indoor all-time list for the event behind only Sarah Healy and Ciara Mageean.
Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC) continued her impressive start to 2025 finishing second overall in the Women’s 400m. The Tipperary athlete won her heat in 51.86, with only Lieke Klaver of The Netherlands running faster (51.70).
Darragh McElhinney (Bantry AC) was sixth in the Men’s 3000m in a season’s best time of 7:45.25.
