Leitrim’s Olympic race-walkers Colin Griffin (Ballinamore AC) and Laura Reynolds (Mohill AC) had a great send-off in Carrick-on-Shannon on Friday, July 20, when Murtagh’s Bar hosted a special fundraising function for the two athletes. Organised by Murtagh’s and Carrick-on-Shannon AC, the function was a great success as people from all over the county gathered to salute the two walkers and wish them well in London.
Past and present members of Carrick-on-Shannon AC as well as guests from all around the county turned out in strength to wish both well and the night was a great success. Colin & Laura also received a unique presentation of their own new Leitrim Community Games Athletics vests by Mary Keenan of Leitrim Community Games to mark their great achievement in qualifying for London and in recognition of the fact that both had won medals at the National Community Games Athletics Finals.
All the artists who performed on the night gave their services free of charge as did the many businesses who contributed to the costs of the event and all money raised on the night will go towards the training fund of Colin & Laura as the prepare for .
Special thanks to Siobhan Murtagh, herself a former Athletics Ireland Juvenile All-Ireland medal winner and double Community Games gold medallist, and Mary Glancy for their efforts in making the event such a success and everyone in Leitrim wishes Colin and Laura the very best of luck in London.
