Successful Munster MD Squad Camp

POSTED:

The Munster Middle Distance Performance Squad enjoyed a superb 3 days at Trabolgan Holiday Village for their annual September camp. The weather was excellent for all 3 days and the location was ideal for a camp. The athletes had use of a very large 18 hole Pitch & Putt course to run on overlooking the ocean, a stunning training environment.

The camp was led by National Junior Endurance Coach Steven Macklin and Pat Hogan Ennis Track. 32 athletes were in attendance with two athletes from Leinster also joining the camp. Athletes were put through their paces on the hills of the golf course and used the pool for recovery. The group were delighted to have Irish 800m & 1000m record holder David Matthews in attendance on the Saturday and he led a superb S&C workshop with the athletes as well as giving them some invaluable insights into his career. The u16/u17 athletes were treated to a superb workshop with coaching legend Br John Dooley, sharing with them his years of knowledge in the sport. The u18-u20 athletes had an interactive workshop with Steven Macklin & Pat Hogan discussing challenges facing Leaving Certs and College Students and stress & adaptation in training. The final workshop of the camp was delivered by Pat Hogan on recovery, with lots of very valuable tips given.

Overall is was a very productive 3 days with lots covered and many friendships made. Thanks to all the athletes for their superb behaviour and enthusiasm displayed throughout the camp. A special thanks to Pat Hogan, David Matthews, Ray Shanahan, Michael Harrington and Br John Dooley for their support during the camp. The athletes now turn their focus to the up coming cross-country and indoor seasons.
