10 Mile titles on the line this weekend

15 July 2026

The final leg of the Athletics Ireland Race Series takes centre stage this Sunday morning (July 19th) with the National 10 Mile titles down for decision at the Irish Runner 10 Mile in the Phoenix Park.

Starting and finishing on Chesterfield Avenue, thousands of runners will take to the iconic park roads from 9am, with close to 800 championship athletes expected to battle it out for individual and team national honours over the 10-mile distance.

With last year’s senior champions currently absent from the entry lists, both the men’s and women’s races appear wide open, while the team competitions promise another fascinating battle as clubs chase national medals.

Senior Men: O’Regan looks to continue winning run

Fresh from claiming the National 5 Mile title last month, Jake O’Regan (St. John’s A.C.) arrives in excellent form and will start among the favourites for another national crown. O’Regan is set to renew his rivalry with the two athletes who joined him on the podium in Phoenix Park just four weeks ago.

Dylan Casey (Ennis Track A.C.) pushed O’Regan all the way at the National 5 Mile before eventually settling for silver and will be hoping the step up to 10 miles can help turn the tables. Gerry Forde (Kilkenny City Harriers A.C.) also returns after claiming bronze in June and brings proven strength over the longer distances.

Emmet Jennings (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) also commands respect. A multiple-time national champion on the roads, Jennings has consistently delivered in championship racing around the Phoenix Park and will once again be expected to feature prominently in the battle for medals.

The team championship also looks finely balanced. Ennis Track A.C. will look to build on their National 5 Mile team success and again boast impressive depth led by Casey, while Dundrum South Dublin A.C.  should once again field a strong squad. Raheny Shamrock A.C., Kilkenny City Harriers and Donore Harriers are all expected to be in the mix as the race unfolds.

Senior Women: Murphy seeks another national crown

The women’s race also promises to be highly competitive with Heather Murphy (St. Michael’s A.C.) looking to continue a remarkable season.

Murphy has already secured National Half Marathon and National 5 Mile titles in 2026 and was in complete control throughout last month’s race in Phoenix Park. The 22-year-old has quickly established herself as one of Ireland’s leading road runners and another victory would complete an impressive championship hat-trick.

Among those looking to challenge will be Ciara Wilson (D.M.P. A.C.), a former National 5 Mile champion whose championship pedigree is well established. Wilson narrowly missed the podium at this year’s National 5K and has the experience to feature prominently over 10 miles.

Maebh Brannigan (Galway City Harriers A.C.) continues to build momentum following her podium finish at the National 5K and is sure to relish the step up in distance. Track star Greta Streimyte (U.C.D. A.C.) also looks set to take her place.

The women’s team competition also looks wide open. Raheny Shamrock A.C. claimed National 5 Mile team gold last month and will again be among the favourites, while Galway City Harriers, Dundrum South Dublin A.C. and St. Michael’s A.C. all possess the strength in depth to challenge for podium positions.
