Rhasidat Adeleke claimed a superb silver medal in the 400m final at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships in New Mexico last night (March 11th).
The Tallaght AC athlete, who was running for the University of Texas, won her race in a time of 50.45. Adeleke was out on her own from the gun, clocking an opening 200 meters of 23:07.
The final was split into two sections with Adeleke being at a disadvantage running in the first race which meant she would have to wait until the conclusion of the second race to confirm her final overall position.
Her 50.45 performance was bettered only by American Britton Wilson who won the second split final in a NCAA record 49.48 - the second fastest indoor time in history with only Femke Bol's world indoor record of 49.26 faster.
Last night marked another huge landmark for Adeleke, continuing on with the form that saw her break her own Irish 400m record just two weeks ago in a time of 50.33 seconds.

Brian Fay (Washington) was also in action at the NCAA D1 finals, finishing 8th in the mile (4:05.07) and 15th in the 3000m (8:17.60).
Shane Bracken was part of the Ole Miss Distance Medley Relay team that claimed silver in a hugely impressive weekend for Irish athletes in D1 action.

Meanwhile Stephanie Cotter claimed both the Mile (4:49:86) and 3000m (9:06:03PB) NCAA II titles for Adams State, adding to her growing list of NCAA titles.
