The GloHealth Spring Throws competition took place in Athlone on Sunday, 29th of March. The event offered much needed early season competition for the Irish throwing community and allowed athletes to assess how their winter training has progressed.

Good Start for Walsh

The all-conquering Michaela Walsh (Swinford AC) dominated the women’s hammer event with a winning effort of 55.80m. All three of Walsh’s marks were over 55m demonstrating good early season form.

Sophie Parkinson (Gowran AC) and Kayleigh Cronin (Farranfore Maine Valley AC) battled it out in the women’s discus event. Parkinson edged ahead with a winning throw of 40.79m with Cronin second with a throw of 40.37m.

Sheridan Impresses

Eoin Sheridan (North Westmeath AC) was the standout performer in the men’s discus event launching it out to a winning distance of 54.08m. The distance improved dramatically on his season bests of 48.23m which he set at the Dunboyne Winter Throws Meet in early March.

Rory Murphy (Fr Murphys AC) and Denise Byrne (Clonliffe Harriers AC) won the javelin competitions with throws of 52.48m and 35m respectively.
