There were mixed fortunes for the Irish contingent at the European junior championships in Hengelo today. Amy Foster set a new PB when finishing third in her heat of the 100m in 11.83 and she qualified for the semi final. Her second race of the day saw her reduce her PB further to 11.79, but unfortunately her seventh place finish was not good enough to proceed to the final. Jessie Barr was in tremendous form in the 400m hurdles. In her heat she clocked 59.55 for third place and a place in the semi final. Her time is a new PB for her and she is well capable of making the final. Even though Kalyn Sheehan set a season’s best in her heat of 60.57, her fifth place finish was not good enough to qualify. Kelly Proper was well down on her best of 6.34 in the long jump, managing just 6.02. That was, however, good enough to take her to the final. David McCarthy was well off his best of 3:46.15 achieved in Belgium last week in the first heat of the 1,500m. In a slow run race he ended up in eight place in 3:53.51 n a race won in 3:51.20. 3 534 FOSTER, Amy IRL 11.83 q PB +0.9 7 534 FOSTER, Amy IRL 11.79 PB +0.8 3 533 BARR, Jessie IRL 59.55 Q PB 5 538 SHEEHAN, Kalyn IRL 1:00.57 SB 8 532 MCCARTHY, David IRL 3:53.51 6 537 PROPER, Kelly IRL 6.02 q
