While most of the attention over the weekend was focussed on the Dublin Marathon, an entirely different ultra-endurance event was taking place.  The World 24 Hour Championships were held in Albi, France over the weekend and Ireland was represented in both men’s and women’s races.

The top Irish performances occurred in the women’s event where Amy Masner led the team home.  Amy ran very strongly to reach 219Km and finish in 24th with Lorraine Mahon achieving a PB of 215Km in 29th place.  Sinead Kane completed the team scoring in 67th place with a distance of 185Km.  Yvonne Naughton achieved 173Km to finish in 86th and Louise Smart was 132nd with 104Km.  The team finished in 10th place overall.

The men’s team finished in 17th place out of 33 teams.  Eoin Keith ran solidly as usual with 223Km in 49th place while the evergreen Eddie Gallen backed him up with 220Km in 54th place.  Alex O’Shea closed the scoring with 198Km in 100th place.  Padraig Mullins in 172nd position with 131Km and Aidan Hogan, 188th with 107Km completed the team.
