60 Post Primary Schools Selected to take part in the iRunForFun Programme – Autumn 2016

In September 2016, Post Primary Schools nationwide were invited to register their interest for the iRunForFun programme. This is a programme aimed to increase activity levels of entire schools by encouraging engagement in recreational running for students of all levels of fitness. It also aims to give students an increased awareness of the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle.

Director of Irish Schools Athletic Association, Mr. Anthony White said “The response and uptake to the iRunForFun programme is very positive. It is very encouraging to see the impact we can make at schools and offer students the opportunity to participate in recreational running in a fun and safe environment”.

Registration is now full due to the huge number of applications, a total of 60 Schools at present will complete the programme this Autumn.  However we will be rolling out this programme again in early 2017.

Physical Education Department

Physical Education teachers will receive their six week iRunForFun training programme to encourage students to complete the programme in the coming weeks. There are three levels available to participants which cater for beginner, intermediate, and advanced runners.

iRunForFun Diary
This is a purpose made diary that all participants will receive. The diary will include training tips, nutritional advice, benefits of exercise, and other relevant items of interest. It will also provide students with a means whereby they can log and monitor their training progress.

School/Club Link

The school will be advised to link up with a local athletics clubs in the area who will give advice to students during the running of the programme while also encouraging students, both elite and recreational, to become involved in their local club. To find a club near you please click HERE.
