Olympian Healy stars at Masters

Olympian Shane Healy (MSB) was a highlight of many wonderful performances at the Irish Life Health Masters Indoor Championships in Athlone today (March 10).

Healy was an Olympic 1500m semi-finalist in Atlanta in 1996 and he won the M45 800m in 2:03.73 from Ken Archbold (St L O’Toole) in 2:04.02. Full results of the day can be seen HERE.

Michael Cornyn (Dunboyne) won his first ever national title in the M55 800m in 2:20.93.

Joe Gough (West Waterford) won the M65 200m in 28.18, a new national record, the 400m in 61.38 and the 800m in 2:23.52.  

Kelly Neely (City of Lisburn AC) won, as expected, the F35 1500m and 3,000m double in 4:53.12 and 9:38.02 respectively.

Anne Gilshinan (Slaney Olympic A.C.) won on the double also in the F50 800m and 1500m in 2:44.05 and 5:06.21 respectively. Niamh Fitzgerald (Lucan Harriers A.C.) was also twice on top of the podium winning the F40 400m in 64.03 and 800m in 2:21.08,

Mary Barrett (Loughrea A.C.) won multiple golds in the F55 section including 10.27m in the shot put. Geraldine Finegan (North East Runners A.C.) won the F50 400m in 68.48 and Avril Dillon (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) had a championship best performance in the F35 60m hurldes in 9.69 seconds.  

Snezana Bechtina (Clonliffe Harriers) won the F35 400m in 59.52 and leapt to victory with 4.81m in the long jump.

Patrick Naughton (Nenagh Olympic) ran an impressive 13.02 in the M85 60m. John Corr (Leevale) was equally impressive in the M45 with 7.45 seconds and he also won the M45 200m in 24.62 by one hundreth of a second from Anthony Greaney (An Riocht).

Ger Cremin (An Ríocht AC) continued his fine form in masters competition in the M35 age group winning the 60m Hurdles in 8.98 and the 400m in 53.19.
