Irish in form as Healy advances to 1500m final
Sarah Healy (Blackrock) led another good session for the Irish winning her 1500m heat in 4:30.29 at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Gyor, Hungary today (July 6).
Healy is now into the final and will also now run the 3,000m final tonight at 5:40pm Irish time live on Eurosport 2 and European Athletics.
You can watch athlete interviews on the Athletics Ireland social media channels.
Oisin Lane (Mullingar Harriers) was first out for the Irish and he had a fine 13th place finish in the boys’ 10,000m race walk in a time of 47:00.13 – a one minute personal best. It was an excellently paced race on his championship debut and first time to compete over 10,000m on track.
Girls’ team captain Miriam Daly (Carrick on Suir) ran well for fourth in her 400m hurdles heat clocking 61.66 seconds. The time was good enough for her to advance to the semis.
Louis O’Loughlin (Donore Harriers) had a mature performance in the first heat of the boys’ 800m finishing third in 1:56.76. He went through the bell in 57 seconds lying in second place and kept his composure to advance to tomorrow’s semi-finals.
Ciara Kennelly (Killarney Valley) bowed out of high jump qualification with a best of 1.68m finishing 20 overall. It was a promising start with first-time clearances over 1.64m and 1.68m but she narrowly failed over 1.71m. Nonetheless, it was a good experience.
Patience Jumbo-Gula (St Gerard’s Dundalk) is another of the Irish athletes competing tonight in the final of the girls’ 100m at 7:09pm Irish time. Also competing are Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght) in the first round of the 200m and Sophie O’Sullivan (Ballymore Cobh) in the semi-finals of the 800m.
