Neville stars at U20 and U23 Indoor Championships

Ciara Neville (Emerald) starred at the Irish Life Health U20 and U23 Indoor Championships with a championship best performance of 7.33 seconds in the U23 60m in Athlone IT today (January 25).

Neville also bagged gold in the 200m in 24.40 having run a championship best performance earlier in the heats with 24.02. Full results are HERE

The Emerald star held off Molly Scott (SLOT) in the 60m who was second in 7.44 with Lauren Roy (City of Lisburn) third in 7.48. Neville's 7.33 clocking was just outside the 7.30 standard for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in China in March. 

Adeyemi Talabi (Longford) edged Patience Jumbo-Gula (Dundalk St Gerard’s) in the U20 60m in 7.57 to 7.58.

Israel Olatunde (UCD) sped to glory in the U20 men’s 60m in 6.91 seconds with Jack Olivier (DSD) and impressive U20 200m winner in 21.60. Tope Adeyeye (Sli Cualann) won the U23 men’s 60m in 6.88 with Mark Smyth (Raheny Shamrock) a good winner in 200m in 21.36. Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght) was a star once again winning the U20 women's 200m in 23.99.

McCann shows grit

Rachel McCann (North Down) had a great battle with Simone Lalor (SLOT) in the U20 women’s 400m winning in 55.59 with Nicole Walsh (Galway City Harriers) retaining the U23 women’s 400m title in 56.25.

Jack Raftery (Donore Harriers) had an excellent duel with Ciaran Carthy (DSD) to edge it at the finish in 48.87 to 48.98.

Cathal Crosbie (Ennis Track) came from behind to win the U23 men’s 400m title in 48.33.

Sarah Quinn (St Colman’s South Mayo) had a busy day with Molly Scott (SLOT) running on the flat and the 60m hurdles in the U23 section. Quinn won the hurdles in 8.56. Elizabeth Tighe (Corran) won the U20 60m hurdles in 8.99.

Joseph McEvoy (Nenagh Olympic AC) and Valantinos Goularas (Crusaders) won the U20 and U23 men’s 60m hurdles in 8.20 and 8.43 respectively.

O’Connor on the double

Ava O’Connor (Tullamore Harriers) won the U20 women’s 800m and 1500m double in 2:11.97 and 4:35.81. Jodie McCann (DCH) won the U23 1500m in 4:39.28.

James Dunne (Tullamore Harriers) won the U20 men’s 800m in 2:00.68 with Mark Milner (UCD) winning the U23 race in 1:54.17. Kevin McGrath (Bohermeen) won the men’s U23 1500m crown in 4:09.40.  

Walsh and Sheehy win again

Michaela Walsh (Swinford) won the U23 women’s shot put with13.62m while Ciara Sheehy (Emerald) won the U20 shot with 12.41m

Sean Carolan (Nenagh Olympic) won the U20 men’s shot put with 14.64m while Jonathan Bell (Crusaders) won the U23 shot with 10.76m.

Appiah hits the heights

The U20 women’s high jump saw victory go to Ciara Kennelly (Killarney Valley) with 1.65m while Daena Kealy (St Abban’s) won the U23 high jump with 1.70m.  

Nelvin Appiah (Longford) caught the crowd’s attention once more to win the U20 men’s high jump with 2.03m while Ciaran Connolly (Le Cheile) won the U23 men’s high jump with 2.00m.

Michael Alajiki (Dundealgan) won the U20 men’s tripel jump with 13.81m with Jai Benson (Lagan Valley) getting out to 14.51m to win the U23.

Luke O’Carroll (Tralee Harriers) won the U20 long jump with 6.88m while the U23 men’s event was won by Joseph Miniter (St Mary’s Clare) with 6.52m.

Jennifer Hanrahan (Tallaght) pulled out a good victory in the U20 women’s long jump with 5.57m with Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown) jumping 5.75m to win the U23 long jump.

Ella-Cyndy Banjoko-Johnson (St Michael’s) won the U20 women’s triple jump with 11.38m and Grace Furlong (Waterford) won the U23 triple jump with 12.13m.

Anna Ryan (Moycarkey Coolcroo) and Una Brice (Leevale) tied for gold in the U20 women’s pole vault with 3.35m Clodagh Walsh (Abbey Striders) won the U23 pole vault with 3.15m.

Conor Callinan (Leevale) was tops in the U20 men’s pole vault with 4.21m while Matthew Callinan Keenan (SLOT) won another national title in the U23 section with 4.40m.

The U20 women’s 3,000m race walk was won by Maria Flynn (Naas) in 14:58.65 with Orlaith Delahunt (Sligo) winning the U23 race in 15:07.96.

Matthew Glennon (Mullingar Harriers A.C.) was a convincing winner of the U20 men’s 3,000m race walk in 12:55.20 and Joseph Mooney (Adamstown AC) won the U23 men’s event in 14:04.95.
