Ennis Track Club capture Junior Men’s ECCC Title

Ennis Track Club enjoyed a historic day in Portugal with their Junior Men’s Team capturing the European Club Cross Country Championships title with a stunning display (Feb 6th). The victory in Lisbon was secured thanks to an incredible showing from the Casey twins, with Dean coming home in first place, just ahead of brother Dylan. Cross country running is all about the team and there was no shortage of depth to the team with Niall Murphy (11th) and Mark Hanrahan (18th) securing top 20 finishes.

Their were seven Irish teams in action in total, with further successes enjoyed in the senior races. Clonliffe Harriers and Dundrum South Dublin AC took to the startline in the senior men’s race.

Hiko Tonosa Haso took an incredible bronze medal for DSD in a hugely competitive senior men's race. Hiko was backed up by Paul O'Donnell, Emmet Jennings and Matt Bergin to finish 9th out of the top 31 clubs in Europe.

Clonliffe Harriers had to manage some injuries to the team but still managed a great showing from the three athletes in Oeiras. The Clonliffe placings on the day where: Sean O'Leary 46th (32.28), Sergiu Ciobanu 67th (33.25) and Jonny Whan 80th (34.35) with the team finishing a credible 18th place overall.

National women’s champion, Michelle Finn, spearheaded the Leevale charge in the senior women’s race, finishing in 5th place and taking some notable scalps in doing so. Sinead O’Conner crossed the line in 37th with Niamh Moore in 57th. 

Letterkenny AC secured a top 10 finish in the senior womens race, even without the cross country experience of Ann-Marie McGlynn and Christine Russell. Nakita Burke finished 25th, with Noeleen Scanlan in 31st and Natasha Adams 42nd.

Donegal were be doubly represented in Portugal, with Finn Valley AC securing a 6th place finish in the junior women’s race. Sarah Bradley lead the charge in 12th, with Nuala Bose (17th), Eimear McCarroll (31st) and Emer O’Brien (47th) completing the team.

Youghal AC also performed well in the junior women's race with Emma Landers (16th) leading them home from Avril Millerick (25th), Avril Cashman (28th), and Alex Cashman (37th).
