Leading athletes to compete at National 20km Race Walk Championships

POSTED:

The leading Irish racewalkers are set to compete at the Irish Life Health National 20km race walk championships on Saturday (June 12th) in St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam, Co. Galway.

World ranking points will be at stake as athletes continue their road towards qualification for the Olympic Games.

Kate Veale will be looking to add another race walk title in the Women’s 20km. The West Waterford AC athlete is down to take on the 20k distance once again having competed over the distance at the Dudinska 50 in Slovakia earlier this year. Eva Delahunt of Sligo AC is also set to take her place on the start line.

The men’s 20k race walk will be a fascinating watch with David Kenny (Farranfore Maine Valley), Callum Lewis Wilkinson (Togher A.C.) and Brendan Boyce (Finn Valley) going toe to toe. Kenny will be looking to continue on his journey towards Tokyo qualification while Boyce comes into this weekend on the back of a fantastic top 10 finish at the European Race Walking Cup in May. The Finn Valley AC athlete has already secured Olympic qualification (50k). Tokyo would represent Boyce’s third Olympic Games, having previously competed at London in 2012, and Rio in 2016.

It should prove to be another exciting race in St. Jarlath’s College at 10am.
