Leinster Schools’ off to a flyer on day 1

The Irish Life Health Leinster Schools’ Track and Field Championships got off to a flyer in sunny Santry on day one of the action (May 15).

The exam weather came along with some new records in a number of the events throughout the day.

Some of the new records included: senior girls’ 1500m steeplechase by Roisin Treacy (Inst of Ed) in 5:11.10, U16 girls’ shot by Amy Callaghan (Our Lady’s Drogheda) with 11.74m, U16 girls’ long jump by Sarah Millea (Scoil Mhuire Clane) with 5.03m, minor girls’ Discus by Holly Wright (St Kevin’s Dunlavin) equalling the existing record of 31.23m, minor boys’ javelin by Aaron Fennell (Ballymakenny CC) with 40.79m, junior boys’ pole vault by Adam Nolan (Scoil Chonglais) with 3.30m and junior boys’ javelin by Karlis Kaugars (Ballymakenny CC) with 50.31m.

The teams were also in good form with the individual performances and depth combining to their tallies. Full results from day 1 HERE
