Athletics Ireland Summer Camps Continue To Grow And Thrive.

The Athletics Ireland Summer Camps continue to grow and thrive.

2016 the third year of the Athletics Ireland Summer Camps saw the continued growth and success of the camps. A total of 1,235 children between the ages of 6 and 12 attended 21 camp locations all across the country, where they received expert athletics coaching in an exciting fun filled environment.

Another mark of the growth of the Summer Camps was the success of five new camp locations in Crusaders AC, Templemore AC, Thomastown AC, National Sports Campus and Tuam AC. These new locations thrived and received great participation numbers.

A major benefit to every club that hosts an Athletics Ireland Summer Camp is that they receive free Athletic Leader Training for new coaches. Hosting a summer camp also brings new juvenile members to a club that will hopefully continue to be members for many years to come. The quality and growth of the camps is a testament to both the clubs and the coaches.

The Camps are all about creating an enjoyable and exciting atmosphere in which the children can learn the basics of athletics and also develop socially through interaction with others. Along with the expert coaching and fun activities each child received a t-shirt, water bottle, spike bag, certificate and medal to mark their participation. The real hope from the camps is that these kids will catch the ‘athletics bug’ and keeping coming back for more. The kids attended the camps each day Monday through till Friday from 10am to 2pm.

The Athletics Ireland Summer Camps will be back in 2017 to build on the great success of 2016 and continue to promote and grow the sport of Athletics in Ireland.
