There is another big schedule of races this week with Ireland’s leading athletes competing internationally and Provincial schools’ championships.

Lizzie Lee (Leevale) and Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrock)are the leading entries for the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m meet which incorporates the British trial for the Olympic Games. Kevin Mulcaire (Ennis Track) is also in the race and he will be eyeing Frank Greally’s 46-year-old national junior record of 30:17.

There will be an Irish squad at the Loughborough international including David Gillick (DSD) and women’s 4x400m relay team comprising of Christine McMahon (Ballymena and Antrim), Jessie Barr (Ferrybank), Jenna Bromell (Emerald), Sinead Denny (DSD) and Ciara McCallion (Clonliffe Hariers). The Healy sisters, Phil and Joan (Bandon), will also be competing.

Ciaran O Lionaird is due to run the 1500m at the HOKA ONE ONE Middle Distance Classic in Los Angeles on May 20.

The GloHealth Connacht and Munster Schools Championships take place this week along with the Ulster Championships. The next Diamond League meeting also takes place this weekend in Rabat, Morocco.

There were a number of impressive results last weekend (14/15 May) which are highlighted below:

Amy Foster (City of Lisburn) impressed over 100m with clockings of 11.42 and 11.40 – latter aided by an illegal +2.4 tailwind. The former secured a European B qualifying mark.
Jason Smyth 10.39 with +1.4 tailwind – one hundredth of a second off the B qualifier
Long jumper Adam McMullen (Crusaders) set a personal best of 7.84m in Clermont, Florida
Dunboyne's Sara Treacy set an Irish best in the 2000m steeplechase of 6:27.38 at the British Milers Club meeting in Manchester.  Letterkenny's Ann Marie McGlynn ran 6:42.51 for an Irish O35 best.
In Munich, Paul Byrne of St Abbans clocked 50.87 to finish second in the 400m hurdles.
At the Terenure five-mile Raheny Shamrock’s Mick Clohisey was outsprinted by Dunboyne's Peter Somba, who edged it by one second in 23:33. The women's race was won by Borrisokane's Siobhán O'Doherty in 27:58.
Amy Rose Farrell was one of a number of record-breakers at the GloHealth Leinster Schools Championships in Santry on Saturday, running 9:55.6 in the intermediate girls' 3000m.
Newport's Sharlene Mawdsley was the star performer at the Tón Le Gaoithe meeting in Waterford, running 23.62 for 200m – a world junior A qualifier
At the Big East Championships in the US, Villanova's Harry Purcell and Síofra Cléirigh-Buttner scored victories over 400m (48.66) and 800m (2:06.82) respectively. Ole Mississippi’s Dempsey McGuigan was third in the hammer at the SEC Championships with 68.55m.
