A lovely day for cross country running at DCU for the Kit Kat Leinster Schools’ Cross Country Championships with some great running from the young stars of the future. An outstanding run by Daire Bermingham in the Senior Boys’ Race saw him run away from a good field with consummate ease. Eoin Healy and Kevin Lawlor were left to battle out the minor places. Again in the Senior Girls’ Race we had another outstanding performance from Sarah Treacy, who showed what a good cross country runner she is. The Intermediate Girls’ race was a much closer affair with the Ffrench-O’Carroll twins, Laura Huet, and Grace Sweeney all in contention until Rebecca Ffrench-O’Carroll pulled away on the final lap. Conor Dooney dominated the Intermediate Boys’ race. A great team race in the Senior Boys’ which was in doubt until the final straight saw Presentation Carlow pip Gormanston and Portlaoise CBS. The top twelve finishers and the first three teams in Senior, Intermediate and Junior events qualified for the Kit Kat All-Ireland Championships to be held on the same venue on 4th March.
