Irish Athletes set for 10,000m Cup

A team of seven Irish athletes are in international action this weekend (28th May) at the European 10,000m Cup in Pace, France. At the 2021 edition of the European 10,000m Cup in London, a team of five athletes took to the competition on behalf of Ireland, with both Hiko Tonosa Haso and Lizzie Lee securing top 10 finishes in their respective categories.  

2022 Team: 

Efrem Gidey (Clonliffe Harriers) @efremgidey2022 on Instagram 

The 2019 European Cross Country Bronze medallist (U20) has had a stunning opening to his outdoor season, securing both the National 5K road title with 13:51 and playing a crucial role in Clonliffe’s recent Road Relay Championship win, Clonliffe Harriers.  

Paul O’Donnell (Dundrum South Dublin AC) @PaulODonneell98 on Instagram 

O’Donnell has continued on from the form which saw him earn a place on the Irish European Cross Country team in Dublin last December. O’Donnell secured a silver in the 10,000m at last year’s National Micro Meet, setting a PB of 29:20.06. The DSD star has had a busy start to 2022 with a series of strong performances such as his top 10 finish in the Uk and Germany. 

Jack O’Leary (Mullingar Harriers) @itsjackoleary on Instagram 

O’Leary produced a string of impressive 10,000m performances across the 2021 season, including a 16th place finish in the NCAA Division in June, setting a PB of 28:29.39. Most recently, O’Leary secured gold at the 5,000m Belfast Irish Milers Meet with 14:10.81 on the clock.

Ann Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC) @mcglynnannmarie/ on Instagram 

McGlynn represented Ireland at the European 10,000m Cup in 2018 and 2019, her most recent appearance seeing the Letterkenny athlete finish inside the top 30 in 33:38.50. McGlynn comes into the weekend in flying form having recently posted a new 5,000m PB of 15:46.08 at Mary Peters Track in Belfast. 

Aoibhe Richardson (Kilkenny City Harriers) @Aoibhe_Richardson on Instagram 

Richardson represented Ireland at the European Cross Country Championships in December, securing a top 25 finish. Richardson was part of the silver-medal-winning team at the European Cross Country Championships in 2019. The Kilkenny star comes here after posting a 33.40.60 last month in the US.  

Emma Mitchell (Clonliffe Harriers) @EmmaMitchell05 on Instagram 

This will be the third 10.000m Cup appearance for Mitchell, with her debut coming in 2018 where she finished within the top 20 followed by her next appearance in 2019. Mitchell has continued her consistent run of form this season, taking top spot at 2022 at the AAI League (3,000m) and Belfast Millers Meet (5,000m). 

Grace Lynch (Iveragh AC) @graciee_riri on Instagram 

Lynch is set to make her debut appearance at the European 10,000m Cup this weekend. In 2021 at the Ireland Micro Meet the Kerry athlete secured a 5th place finish in the 10,000m. The Iveragh athlete boast a personal best of 34:49.70. Most recently, Lynch secured a top 20 finish at the Berlin half marathon in 1:13:50.
