TUTHILL SET TO HEADLINE NATIONAL SPRING THROWS

POSTED:

European U23 Throwing Cup silver medallist, Nicola Tuthill (UCD AC), is set to headline this weekend’s National Spring Throws Competition which takes place at the Tullamore Harriers ground on Sunday 24th of March from 10:30am.

Tuthill returns to domestic hammer throw action following her superb 67.39 in Portugal earlier this month, a performance that saw her claim silver for the second successive year having become the first Irish athlete ever to win a medal at the European Throwing Cup when she took silver in the women’s U23 hammer competition in 2023.

This week’s action in Tullamore will see over 100 registered athletes compete across the Javelin, Hammer and Discus, with Tuthill’s recent European Throws Cup teammates Oisin Joyce (Lake District AC) and Anna Gavigan (LSA AC) also taking to competition at the Offaly venue.

Joyce enjoyed a superb Euro Throws Cup of his own, posting a huge PB of 70.84 in the javelin to set himself up nicely for the season ahead. Gavigan returned home from Portugal with a season’s best of 44.10 in the discus, a performance which is sure to give her plenty of encouragement as she returns to the venue which saw her PB last year with a 49.32 as she edges ever closer to that illusive 50-meter barrier.

Cian Crampton (Edenderry AC) goes in the men’s Discus where he’ll look to go throw beyond the European U18 qualifying standard.

Heptathlete Enya Silkena goes in women’s javelin where she will be looking to achieve a European U18 standard which looks very much within her reach.

Thomas Williams goes in the men’s hammer and will be looking to repeat his great form last weekend in Templemore where he surpassed the 70m barrier and achieved the European U18 standard.

Recently crowned European Masters medalists Rachel Akers (double gold) and Micheal Grace (Bronze) both go in the hammer against senior and youth opposition.
