NOTICE OF THE NOMINATION PERIOD FOR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS OF THE 2023 ATHLETE’S COMMISSION

1 March 2023

The Athletics Ireland Athlete’s Commission are seeking new candidates for the 2023 edition of the committee. The commission is welcoming personal nominations via the online form linked below until the 7th March 2023 at 5pm.

Athletics Ireland is committed to listening to athletes and set up the commission in 2022 under the guidance of Orla Drum. The second year of the commission sees an opportunity to continue the work and progress of raising athletes’ voices within the organisation and putting athlete views forward in decision making. So far, the commission has worked to make changes to the terms of reference, created an online portal for athletes to send in requests/concerns/feedback and liaised with AI on high performance related topics. This offers an excellent opportunity for the new commission to build on the work of the first year. It is an exciting time for athletics in Ireland and is a great way to give back to the sport and learn more about how it operates.

If there are more nominations than positions, there will be a voting opportunity for the high-performance community in Athletics Ireland to vote for who they would wish to represent their interests. If required, this will take place online from the 13th-17th March 2023.

The terms of reference dictate that to be on the commission athletes need to have represented Ireland at senior level in the last five years at anything from Olympics to European team championships and event specific European competitions (e.g. throws, multi-events and 10k). If you meet this criteria we would love to hear from you!

If you feel you have the skills and want to be involved more in your sport, please complete the form at the link below by Tuesday 7th March at 5pm.
