Action gets underway tomorrow in Moscow at the World Indoor Championships.  The team of 9 athletes and support staff are raring to get going in chilly Moscow, in what promises to be a thrilling affair. 6 out of the 9 athletes are in action on Day 1 of the championship with the Women’s 3,000m gone to a straight final on Saturday. The team includes David Gillick and Alistair Cragg both gold medallists in last years European Indoor Championships and Derval O’Rourke who is in the form of her life standing 6th in the World Rankings. Alistair after having a mixed season so far, ran an excellent mile early season then failed to finish in Fayetteville has a lot to prove.  David has achieved a personal best over 200m in the indoor season, but has yet to prove his form over 400m he will be keen to get stuck-in in Moscow.  Derval is a big day performer and this is the first major test in her career. Also on the team, James Nolan has returned to excellent form having returned to Ireland to study in UCD and train with Coach David Burke.  James ran an 8 second personal best over 3K two weeks ago is clearly in fantastic shape.  Roisin McGettigan who was ranked 9th in the World over 3,000SC last year is going in the flat race this time, Roisin will be joined by team mate Maria McCambridge who took her first national Cross Country title two weeks ago with an impressive run in Santry. David McCarthy who made the final in this event in 2003 and was part of the medal winning quartet in 2004 is very experienced at this level, has shown signs this season of the form which took him to the final in 2003 after a difficult year in 2005.  Also travelling Emily Maher and Ailis McSweeney both in the 60m will be looking to make it out of the first round.  Ailis World Student Games medallist last year, has yet to show the form that won her the national title in 2005 will be hoping to get it right on the day and Emily is the in form of her life with a new personal best at the national championships in Belfast will be hoping to improve on that performance and get close to Anna Boyles new national record. We wish the team all the best in their endeavours over the course of the weekend. Click Here for Athlete Profiles(PDF File)
