Raheny Shamrock Athletic Club will play host to this weekend’s 123.ie National Road Relay Championships which take place on Wade’s Avenue in Raheny from 1.30pm on Sunday (April 27th).
The road specialists will be joined on the start-line by a host of track stars as they battle it out for team honours around the now familiar lapped route.
The senior men’s race was enthralling right from the gun last year and the 2024 champions in Conliffe Harriers are back with a bumper entry as they bid to continue their running run. Clonliffe were able to call upon Efrem Gidey last year as they ran away with the 2024 title in a winning time of 37:00 ahead of Ennis Track, and Raheny who look set to reoppose with strong looking teams once more. Expect Craughwell, KCH, and DSD to put in strong showings.
The senior women’s race looks just as competitive as Dundrum South Dublin look to defend their 2024 title which was won in 20:38. Hosts Raheny could be the ones to push them closest, while UCD will look to build on last year’s third place finish with a formidable looking team set to take their place.
The day’s action will get underway at 1.30pm on Sunday, with the women’s (masters) race getting the action up and running. Sportsworld AC will bid to defend their crown in the women’s O35 race, while Raheny once again having a strong hand in the O50 race where Ennis will look to defend their title.
The men’s masters O35 title went to host Raheny AC 12 months ago, and they can be expected to put in another brave show. The men’s O50 race is a tough one to call with City of Derry Spartans looking to retain their crown.
