Eric Favors (Raheny Shamrock) has broken his own Irish indoor shot put record with a superb 19.99m throw to finish 4th in the early hours of this morning at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa (Jan 20).
The performance continues a remarkable run of form by the Raheny star which has seen him break the national indoor and outdoor shot put records on multiple occasions last season. Favors broke the 20-meter mark several times during last year’s outdoor season, a distance which had eluded him for so long before his breakthrough performance in May 2022, which saw him take over from Olympian Paul Quirke’s (Crusaders AC) national record which had lasted 30 years (20.04m 1992).
Favors noticeable technique improvements, alongside his increased power levels, will ensure Irish shot put will undoubtedly be back in the spotlight as the season progresses.
