Fionnuala strikes gold in Velenje

Fionnuala McCormack (nee Britton) announced herself as an international star when she won the women's race at the European Cross Country Championships in Velenje, Slovenia in 2011. Britton had been in excellent form all season and crowned it with a fantastic front-running performance.

Fionnuala raced to success over the 8km course in 25:55 getting the better of Portugal's Ana Dulce Felix (26:02) and Great Britain's Gemma Steel (26:04). It was a remarkable win for the Wicklow woman who is one of the most consistent athletes ever at the European Cross Country Championships
