Places up for grabs for GloHealth All Ireland Schools Cross Country

Places up for grabs for GloHealth All Ireland Schools

Thousands of Ireland's best schools' athletes will compete in their respective provincial and district championships this week in a bid to qualify for the GloHealth All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships, the centenary event, in Sligo Race Course on March 5th. 

The GloHealth Leinster Schools take place once more in Santry Demesne tomorrow (February 10th) with action getting underway at 12pm with the minor girls. The should see many of last year's champions return including Sarah Healy (Holy Child Killiney), Hope Saunders (Mount Temple), Jack O'Leary (Clongowes) and Louis O'Loughlin (Moyle Park). 

The senior boys 6,000m race will see the likes of St Aidan's competing for the team title while Jack O'Leary (Clongowes) will have the likes of Peter Lynch (St Kieran's, Kilkenny) and Cathal Doyle (St Aidan's) to contend with. Hope Saunders (Mount Temple) will be favourite in the senior girls 2,500m race if fit and toes the line. Emma O'Brien (Dominican College Wicklow) will be among those looking to wrestle the title from her grasp.

The Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships also takes place tomorrow, February 10th, in Mallusk with the likes of Clodagh O'Reilly (Loreto Cavan) and Craig McMeechan (Bangor) looking to impress. Defending All Ireland Scools champion Kevin Mulcaire (St Flannan's Ennis) will look to continue his dominance in schools competition by winning the GloHealth Munster Schools title on February 11th in the new venue of Tramore Valley Park in Cork City. There will be a raft of competitors looking to make their mark on what promises to find the toughest cross country runners in Munster. For details of the day click HERE

The Connacht Schools aren't due to take place until the 23rd of February.
