Athletics Ireland Introduce a Women’s Officer Role in Clubs
As part of the Women in Sport Programme all clubs have been asked to appoint a Women’s Officer as part of their club committee.
There will be an on-line meeting set up for all Women’s Officers to be held during Women in Sport week in March 2025..

What is The Role of The Women’s Officer
- Act as a point of contact for the Women in Sport Lead
- Develop networks and links with other clubs
- Update the club on any initiatives for women and girls as appropriate such as courses, workshops, campaigns and grants
- Be the main point of contact between the club and Athletics Ireland Women in Sport Lead
- Be part of a network of Women’s Officers around the country
Regional WhatsApp groups can be set up for them to link with local clubs if requested.
Please see below a few examples of activities a Women’s Officer could lead on in the future;
- Being a point of contact for females currently in the club
- Being the point of contact for new female members
- Organising Women’s training sessions/training groups/training days
- Encouraging participation in events
- Organising events for HER Outdoors week
- Organising a local park run takeover
- Linking with your Local Sports Partnership or Council to find out about funding or equipment support
- Sharing Athletics Ireland opportunities with other club members such as coaching, leadership programmes and webinars.
The role of Women’s Officer can be undertaken by anyone in the club who has a passion for women in sport and will champion this within their club.
