McCormack eyes national 10k title

Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole) will look to stamp her mark once more at the Great Ireland Run this Sunday and win another national 10k road title.

The national 10k has been part of the Great Ireland Run for the last number of years. Athletics Ireland will also field senior men’s and women’s teams in a match versus England. Ireland defeated a Commonwealth Selection in the same fixture in 2016. McCormack’s main competition looks likely to be England’s Gemma Steel.

To date in 2017 Athletics Ireland has provided international exposure for senior and U23 endurance athletes at non-championship events at Great Edinburgh Cross Country Mixed 4x1k relay, Antrim International Cross Country, Celtic Cross Country at Cardiff Cross Challenge, Armagh 5k and now the Great Ireland Run.

The Irish University Track and Field Championships also take place this week hosted by Cork IT where a number of Ireland’s leading athletes look set to compete including Thomas Barr for the University of Limerick.
